I have been studying Fine Art A-level with my main investigation focusing on reflections and preservation. I have drawn inspiration from artists such as Joël Penkman and Janet Fish, both of whom paint in a hyper-realistic style.

Hyper realism is a style I have been focusing on for my main body of work. I chose this style in order to challenge myself as well as helping to convey the meanings behind my pieces clearly. When exploring the theme of preservation I have centred this around food and the failings of my own attempts at preservation. The failing and successes of this, I believe is representative of society’s pursuit of perfection and the inevitability of change. This concept is something that I have found very interesting and have been documenting through my pieces.

I like exploring creativity in many forms including music, sewing and community projects that have given me the opportunity to try new ideas and ways to be creative.

I am a Grade 6 Trumpet player and have played in the Peak District Big Band for over six years. Music is something I enjoy and I love how expressive it is.

I am active participant in local community arts festivals and celebrations, my home town of Buxton has a busy and active arts scene and this has provided me with lots of new opportunities. I have contributed to the annual wells dressing, helping to draw up designs for the pressing of flowers into great slabs of clay, creating a colourful montage of petals. I have also volunteered with the town’s fringe festival, helping the public with information for the many creative shows and exhibitions around the town as well as exhibiting at the towns ‘Artwork 2022’ exhibition.

During lockdown in 2020 I learnt to sew and crochet, I have also created my own sewing patterns, creating useful items for myself such as bags and clothes.

Experimenting more with these different creative techniques is something that I would like to pursue in the future.
