Pen on paper (A2)
Inspired by the style of zentangle as well as pointillism. I focused on creating patterns comprised with 0.05mm dots of pen.
The marine animal I wanted to study was a lion fish due to is odd looks. I thought that the spines and stripes on the fish would help me to create patterns on the piece.
Artist Research
I chose to do a study of Radomir Mudrinic, a pointillism artist who looks into sea creatures. For this study I used red ink and distributed the dots across the paper with a wooden skewer. Mudrinic’s work is detailed and so I thought using a skewer to place these small dots would help to emulate this.
Development
For the development of this piece I experimented with ink and masking fluid. Dotting on the liquid latex and once dry, adding ink before peeling it away to see the white piece underneath.
I used liquid mask and a skewer to create the white parts of the work and once I’d finished, I layered ink on top to create a dark contrast. I then peeled off the liquid mask to show the inverse effect.
