Pears – Oil on canvas (60cm x 40cm)
This looked into the preservation of organic forms through the protection of clear acrylic moulds.
Photos
When taking photos for this piece, the light around was important. I wanted it to be clear that these pears were within clear moulds. I thought that the highlights contributed to this fact.
When picking the pears, I decided to go for some which weren’t just green as this would be more challenging for myself, especially with the details of spots on the fruit due to their changing colour over the fruit.
Artist Research
Janet Fish is an American contemporary realist artist. She investigates the interaction of light with everyday objects through her still life paintings as well as other mediums.
I like Fish’s work because of her focus on how light is used in everyday how we don’t notice the reflections that are in front of us.
I looked into tonal range by doing some works in purple, trying to achieve the difference between the fruits and the plastic they were wrapped in.
When looking at Janet Fish’s works I decided to do some close up images of my own. To achieve this I got my own fruit and vacuum formed it in our technology department.
I liked painting the oil piece below and enjoyed trying to achieve the texture on the pear as well as the swirl of blue highlights.
